A Letter From Our Assistant Program Director

Dr. Nery Guerrero, MD

Dear Applicants,

Welcome to the La Maestra Family Medicine Residency Program and thank you for your interest in joining our growing community of compassionate physicians.

As a recent graduate of the Contra Costa Family Medicine Residency and a proud alumna of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, I know firsthand what it means to train in a mission-driven, community-centric environment. At La Maestra, we carry that same spirit forward: we train physicians who are deeply connected to the people and neighborhoods they serve.

Our program provides residents with diverse clinical, community, and service experiences to develop as clinicians, advocates, and leaders.  You will work alongside a varied and passionate care team, addressing the social drivers that shape the lives of our patients every day. It’s challenging, hands-on work—but it is also incredibly meaningful.

If you’re looking for a residency that values community, fair treatment, and heart, I invite you to bring your passion and curiosity to La Maestra. Here, you’ll not only become an excellent physician – you will become part of a family that is committed to making healthcare better for all.

Warmly,
Nery Guerrero, MD
